Daffodil, the Early Spring Flower

Last week the whole of Britain was covered with snow even in London, Devon and Cornwall which is supposed to be the warmest area in UK. It was certainly very cold and as soon as I took my hands out from gloves they froze up. I thought those could be the coldest days I have experienced in England.

But now the severe weather has gone and the sunlight seems brighter. It means we are very closed to in Spring! When we talk about spring in Japan the first thing/flower we think about is Sakura cherry blossom, however, the most noticeable flower in early spring in the UK is the Daffodil. When the weather is warmer I start to feel desperate to go out for a walk. By walking in a park I see some gathering of bright yellow in a flowerbed. It is the unmistakable colour of Daffodils which makes me realize ‘Spring has finally come!’.

For the monthly sweet for March I thought there is nothing more suitable as the design than the Daffodil. The colour of this flower is very bright yellow but not too harsh on my eyes.

Sweet 🌹 Roses for Valentine’s Day

We are in February. It is the month of Valentine’s Day. So I wanted to make some suitable sweet for this particularly ‘Love’ month. In Japan by following an opportunist Chocolate company’s strategy Valentine’s day became the day that a girl gives chocolate to the boy she likes, but I am in London and I will just create something that shows love between people.

In England it does not matter if you are a man or a woman you can give flowers, a card or a book, anything to the person you love. However, I think the most common things people choose as a gift are flowers so I made a sweet in a shape of flower with Love.

Sweet Roses

When you express your love with flowers I believe Roses are the most obvious choice for many people. I had an idea to decorate my Japanese sweet as a rose for a white and used it for this month’s sweet.

Lumiere London 2

Lumiere London was a big lighting festival that was held in January. I visited several areas in central London and my journey continued from the venues I took viewing the installations at Westminster Abbey, Soth Bank, Oxford Cirus to Piccadilly through Regent Street in my previous post.

Leicester Square

One of the main exhibition areas of this year’s Lumiere London was Leicester Square. Inside the square there were giant rabbits, fox, frogs as well as a huge Foxglove plant and many Butterflies glowed in the darkness, creating a magical fairy tale world.

Lumiere London 1

There was a wonderful event in London about two weeks ago (the 18th – 21st January) called ‘Lumiere London’. This was a festival of Lighting displayed in the public space in central London. I went into town and took lots of photos so I would be able to share the experience with you all. However, straight after that event, Bang!! I got the flu… I don’t catch a cold very often so this flu germ must have been a super strong one. Somebody in the audience gave it to me. I gargled to spit out the germs and washed hand as soon as I got back home but two day after the day I became ill with a high temperature with aching muscles and stuck in bed for a week.

I apologise for the delay of posting these photos but because it was a very interesting event I would like to share the photos with you here.

Lumiere London

The event ‘Lumiere London’ was the open viewing art works of 50 lighting works by different artists in public space. The venues were spread out in several areas in Central London. The area I went to see first was in Westminster.

This was one of the major art works for this year’s event. The lighting was done in two entrances. The light of the main entrance changed from time to time. There seemed lighting from inside as well so the stained glass rose up clearly to emarge with the outside lighting. The unusual colour choice of lighting for a cathedral was great too.
