Chocolate Heart Mochi, Japanese sweet (Vegan & Gluten free)* * 💕Happy Valentine's Day! 💕 This is my sweet for this year's Valentine's Day. It's a heart-shaped Japanese sweet with chocolate flavoured Mochi outer layer and sweet white bean paste and homemade red currant jam inside. For this special occasion it has the golden 💕Love potion💕 powder sprinkled on top. The great thing is you can taste this sweet @the_havan_store during February. Maybe Love is like a Chocolate Mochi! Red Berries with Snow, Japanese sweet (Vegan & Gluten free) Although it hans't snowed in London (so far), it feels very cold under the thick layer of grey cloud in the sky. I made this Matcha flavoured Japanese sweet by having an image that red berries of Nandina domestica slightly coveted with fallen snow. 'Ume' Plum Blossom, Japanese Sweet (Vegan & Gluten free) Japanese 'Ume' Plum quite often opens two different colours of blossom on one tree. They are tiny flowers which have an intoxicating scent too. It must be the best plant in January. This sweet in the photo is one of the design examples for my Wagashi Making Workshop which ended well last sunday. All the attendees made fantastically creative sweets. Plum Flower Mochi, Japanese sweet (Vegan & Gluten free) Have you seen 'Ume' plum blossom? It is a tiny pretty flower that opens on a still bare branch during wintertime. The flower comes between white to dark pink which brightens up a wintery garden and a scenery. I created this Mochi type sweet which has got the soft & gooey outer layer with sweet white bean paste and a little surprise as a centre filling. 'Temari' Ball, Japanese sweet (Vegan & Gluten free)* * 'Temari' is a Traditional Japanese handcrafted ball made with cloth and embroidery. In order to created the look of the beautiful balls I used three coloured 'Nerikiri' sweet and a tiny golden decoration on top. It's got 'Koshian' Azuki red bean paste filling inside and you can enjoy the flavour combination of bean paste with either Ube purple sweet potato (purple part) or Matcha green tea (green part). * I am going to have a Wagashi Workshop in London on the 26th of January. The time has come for the new Wagashi Making Workshop! I believe you are fully recharged for this new challenge. The theme of the sweets in January is early spring and we are going to make a Snow Rabbit and 'Ume' Plum flower in two ways. These are the Japanese sweets often served at the tea ceremony which has got soft & flexible texture that can be made into decorative seasonal sweets. Wagashi Workshop in December Big apologies about the delay! I finally managed to write the report on the Christmas themed Wagashi Making Workshop. It was already about a month ago that the people gathered on one Sunday afternoon in the cosy basement of @the_havan_store . I always enjoy seeing that the participants get creative and make the sweets in their own ways so I normally keep my example sweets quite simple. After deciding three designs for this workshop I was a little worried that there might not be enough room to show their creativity, however, I was wrong. Every attendees utilised all the materials cleverly and created somthing so remarkable! A woollen hat, top hat, patterned scarves and ear covers for a snowman! Who'd have thought them? Fantastic! Poinsettia, Japanese sweet (Vegan & Gluten free) Just two days until Christmas day. The most significant plant/flower that associates with this festive season is poinsettia. In its native country, which is in warm area, the plant grows huge like a tree but here in the UK we only see it at the end of a year in a small pot. I made Poinsettia sweet last year too but I have changed the design a little this time by using a different technique with a tool. I also added some Christmassy flavour to the centre filling and I am pleased to see that it goes well with the theme as I planned. Limited number of this Poinsettia sweet is available @the_havan_store .
