After a few cool days the summer is back in London. ☀️☀️☀️💦 I wonder what makes people feel we are in summer. For me one of those things is Watermelons. When I see Watermelons laid down in front of groceries shops, I feel the season has arrived. Watermelons are one of the popular summer fruits in Japan and I have many childhood memories of it. Two years ago I made a Japanese sweet in Watermelon shape. It was made with the Japanese sweet ‘Nerikiri’.
This summer I made a Japanese sweet in a Watermelon shape again, however, this time I wanted to make it slight differently from the last one. I chose ‘Mochi’ as the material and that is because I see many Nerikiri Watermelons on Social Media but none in Mochi type so far. You see I like a challenge!
Mochi Watermelon
So my Mochi type Watermelons were born.
The outer layer is Mochi type sweet which made into a Watermelon shape by composing the four parts in different colours.
And it is not just the shape that is a Watermelon. It has Sweet Bean Paste in the centre which is packed with the Watermelon flavour by adding plenty of fresh juice of the fruit.
And there is one more important element. As the Watermelon you cannot forget its black seeds. Yes, it is true that there are some type without any seeds by using biotechnology, but without black seeds the fruit does not look summery at all. So my Mochi Watermelon has 10 black seeds on top of each sweet.
It’s Vegan and Gluten free.
This Mochi 🍉Watermelon is served in the Matcha Bar at Wasoukan (Notting Hill, London) until the 21st of August. Enjoy!
Whoa, these look amazing! Are the seeds mochi or sesame seeds?

Thank you very much! When I made another type of Watermelon Sweet two years ago I used black sesame seeds but this time I piped bean paste which was coloured darker.

Thank you for visiting me page. No, I haven’t created the recipe, Yet! But what I can suggest you is that you ‘add as much watermelon juice as possible into sweet bean paste’. Cheers! 🙂
